Remembering the Wisdom That Still Speaks
A personal journey into healing, ancient traditions, and the echoes that shaped the Gaea Remembered series.
Welcome to the first issue of Echoes of Ancient Wisdom.
Ancient wisdom does not disappear. It echoes through time, waiting for someone to listen.
In this newsletter, Echoes of Ancient Wisdom, I explore the ancient traditions, healing knowledge and spiritual insights that continue to echo through our modern world.
My journey eventually led me to write the historical fiction series Gaea Remembered, which follows a young woman travelling through ancient centres of wisdom across Egypt, India, China and the Mediterranean world.
Ever since I was a child I had a feeling that some of the things I was taught, especially about history, did not quite add up. History was one of my favourite subjects, yet I often wondered how the extraordinary cathedrals and castles I visited across the UK were built. Were they truly created with little more than hammers, chisels and simple wooden frames? Even today, with all our modern technology, we struggle to build things that last for centuries.
At the same time I was drawn to healing. My dolls and teddies were always sick or injured, so perhaps it is no surprise that I eventually trained as a nurse. Yet again I sensed that something was missing. It was my own health challenges with severe endometriosis that set me on a deeper journey into what is often called alternative medicine, as well as psychology and personalised approaches to health.
Losing my husband to leukaemia led me further into understanding grief and loss. It also opened the door to exploring spiritual and esoteric traditions, along with many paths of personal development and transformation.
Over time I began to see that the wisdom we seek is not something entirely new. It is something older than our modern world, something that has walked beside humanity for centuries. The voices of the past have not disappeared. They still echo through stories, traditions, and the living earth itself. All that is required of us is the willingness to pause, to listen, and to remember.
As I explored different healing and spiritual traditions, I encountered ideas that challenged the way I had previously understood life and consciousness.
During my hypnotherapy training I also studied past life therapy. Experiences, dreams and impressions that I had long carried began to make more sense to me. If consciousness continues beyond a single lifetime, perhaps the echoes of those lives remain within us. I have often felt a strong connection to the role of healer across different times and places.
At a writing retreat in Hawaii in 2017 something remarkable happened. A story seemed to arrive almost fully formed. I felt a strong sense that it was connected to a life on a Greek island around the time of the Santorini eruption, around 1613 BCE.
That moment began an extraordinary exploration of ancient wisdom and how much of it still speaks to us today.
From that exploration the Gaea Remembered series was born. The story follows the life journey of a young woman named Monia as she moves through centres of ancient knowledge, beginning in ancient Ireland and travelling to Kemet (Egypt), Bharat (India), the Middle Kingdom (China), and eventually to a small Greek island. Her path weaves through loss, healing, awakening, and the deep wisdom traditions of the ancient world.
The purpose of this newsletter is simple: to explore the ancient insights that once guided human life and to consider how they might illuminate our present moment. Many of these reflections arise from my own experiences, my research, and the journey of writing these books.
Each piece is an invitation to listen more deeply, to rediscover wisdom that may have been forgotten, and to remember that the past still has much to teach us about how to live well today.
Ancient wisdom does not disappear. It echoes through time, waiting for someone to listen.
Much of that wisdom arose from a deep relationship with the earth itself. Ancient cultures understood that human life was woven into a larger living tapestry where the rhythms of nature, the turning of the seasons, and the quiet intelligence of the natural world offered guidance for how to live.
In many ways our modern world has drifted far from that relationship. Yet the memory of it remains. If we listen carefully we may discover that the past still holds keys for healing the present.
If these reflections resonate with you, you are warmly invited to subscribe and continue exploring these echoes of ancient wisdom with me.
These reflections are part of that journey of remembering.
I am listening.
I am remembering.
Are you?
