Are We in Harmony with the Earth?
Energy, resonance, and the rhythms of the natural world
The Energy That Connects Us
We are energetic beings.
Everything is made of energy. Even the things we consider solid are simply vibrating at frequencies that we perceive as stable and fixed.
Each of our cells carries electrical charge, like tiny batteries. We measure activity in the brain using EEG (electroencephalogram), and in the heart using ECG. The heart also generates a magnetic field, which can be measured slightly beyond the body with sensitive instruments.
The Schumann Resonance
The Schumann Resonance is often described as the Earth’s “heartbeat”. It refers to a set of electromagnetic resonances that occur in the cavity between the Earth’s surface and the ionosphere.
The baseline frequency is approximately 7.83 Hz, though it can fluctuate due to factors such as lightning activity, solar activity, and changes in the atmosphere.
In some traditions, this resonance is seen as a reflection of the Earth as a living system, a dynamic field of energy and feedback, constantly adjusting and responding.
At times, measurements of the resonance show fluctuations or gaps, often due to limitations or interruptions in monitoring systems rather than the frequency itself disappearing.
Some people feel particularly sensitive to these changes. This may be because the Schumann Resonance overlaps with the range of human alpha brainwaves (around 7–13 Hz), which are associated with relaxed and meditative states.
For those who are attuned to subtle shifts, there can be moments of increased awareness, deeper reflection, vivid dreams, or emotional release. Whether this is directly linked to the resonance or simply part of our own natural rhythms is still open to interpretation.
Solar Flares
Solar flares are sudden bursts of energy released from the Sun’s surface due to magnetic activity. It can feel as though the Sun takes a deep breath and then exhales light, radiation, and charged particles into space.
When directed towards Earth, these events can interact with our planet’s magnetic field. Our atmosphere protects us from most harmful radiation, but the effects can still be observed.
One of the most beautiful expressions of this interaction is the Aurora Borealis in the north, and the Aurora Australis in the south. In recent years, these displays have been visible further from the poles than usual.
Strong solar storms can also:
• disrupt satellites
• affect GPS systems
• interfere with radio communications
• in extreme cases, impact power grids
Effects on Humans
Scientifically, there is no strong evidence that solar flares directly affect human emotions, consciousness, or behaviour.
However, some people report experiencing:
• changes in sleep patterns
• fatigue or bursts of energy
• heightened emotional sensitivity
These experiences may be influenced by many factors, including natural biological rhythms, environmental changes, or personal sensitivity.
In more spiritual interpretations, such fluctuations are sometimes seen as periods of adjustment or transformation.
Ancient Awareness
Ancient cultures were deeply aware of the Sun’s importance.
It was understood as a life-giver, a timekeeper, and a source of cycles and change. Many cultures, including the ancient Egyptians, honoured the Sun as sacred. Even in later traditions, solar symbolism can be found carved into the stonework of cathedrals and sacred buildings.
A Personal Reflection
I am one of those people who are sensitive to these fluctuations, whether through the Schumann Resonance or periods of increased solar activity. They often seem to show up as disturbed sleep, vivid or unusual dreams, and shifts in energy level, sometimes I’m super energised and at other times exhausted.
I have spent time above the Arctic Circle and seen nothing but white cloud, so it felt particularly special in October 2024 to witness the Northern Lights from my own town in Cheshire.
It was a gentle reminder that these moments of wonder, shaped by the rhythms of the Sun and Earth, can appear when we least expect them.
For me, these natural rhythms are a reminder.
A reminder of the importance of staying connected to the living world around us. To the cycles of the Earth, the movement of the seasons, and the subtle shifts that shape life.
Whether we understand them scientifically or experience them intuitively, they invite us to slow down and listen. Are you aligning your daily rhythm with the natural flow of life?
Are you listening, feeling, and remembering?
